Modesty got me an F in gym class 😑
A friend of mine recently asked if my modesty is something that comes from my faith, but I’ve always been this way. Rewind back to the 90’s, and I was a tall, lanky kid in high school. I was made up of 90% legs and hated showing them!! 😂
For gym class, we had to “dress out.” That means changing from school clothes to workout clothes. This simple act was a HUGE part of our grade.
I hated shorts, so I dressed out in workout pants. The Coach said, “That’s not dressing out. You need shorts.”
I said, “These pants are for working out.”

He said, “No. You need to wear shorts.”
And I said, “No, I don’t.”
He said, “Then you’ll get a failing grade.”
Well, F…
…is what I got in gym class. A big fat F. I failed gym class.
I could be a stubborn teenager when I knew that I was right, so I took the F, did nothing during gym, and went to two weeks of summer school to make up for the grade.
The coach that taught summer school agreed that these are workout pants! I wore them for summer school and got an A!
And guess what Coach Cox??

They still fit!!! 😂
안녕! Bye! Ciao!

Good for you for standing up for what you believe! And for those pants still fitting! 🙂

What a bully trying to make you do something you weren’t comfortable with holding your grade hostage. Way to stand strong! And I agree – those are workout pants!

High school can be such a strange time. You’re practically an adult (I even had a job!) but some teachers treat you like a kid. This coach really refused to even listen. And thank you! 😄 Yes, yes, they are workout pants! 😁 😆

By the way, me agreeing was with Robyn’s remark about the coach being a bully. What was his deal? (And why wasn’t my comment placed where I had intended???)
Congrats on the pants still fitting. I’m slim and don’t eat much, so my clothes generally last 20 years, so long as they don’t wear out.

He was a middle-aged gentleman who was… how do I say it? Not very happy to be teaching. We had a few teachers like that. He didn’t care to even listen to me at all, I think he just wanted out of that job. Or at least, that’s the impression I got. I hope he’s happy, or at least more content, wherever he is now.
Mmm, I don’t know, I think your comment showed up fine 🙂
And hahaha! Yeah, I asked my husband why he never picks up something when we go to the thrift store. He replied, “Because there’s nothing. Men wear clothes until they fall apart off their bodies.” 😆

Exactly! Your husband nailed it!

Great post! I hated changing for gym so I didn’t wash my clothes for a year at a time. Gross I know.

Oh, that is such a teenage way to fix it 😁 Problem solved! I can relate. I hardly ever washed my jeans because we didn’t have a dryer, we had a clothesline outside. And they would bake stiff under the Florida sun. So… I just didn’t wash them 🤣 Problem solved!

WELL, that is admirable! I, on the other hand, was scolded by our gym teacher for smoking cigarettes on the way to Central Park for our run outside! haha!

That’s really good! 🙂 I had a brief period in my mid-20’s when I both drank and smoked. When I gave up drinking, smoking was over too. Thank goodness.

Oh my 😆 Yeah, only the cool kids got scolded for stuff like that. (I was most definitely not “cool,” ever…). Hahaha

I’m impressed! I had equal feelings about showing my legs and still do. However, I didn’t have the guts to stand up for it in highschool, instead I wore those horrible shorts. It’s something I regret. Thank you for sharing this. 💖

Some teachers can be terribly intimidating, so I totally understand. I was actually very shy, but my “rebellious phase” worked in my favor this one time! I’m sorry you went through that. School can be so tough. Many hugs! ❤️

Thankfully, I can see how God used even that to help me stand for what is right as an adult. God bless dear!💗

Well done! One should always stand up for what is right. I wish I was as determined as you when I was younger.

Right?? Thank you! Especially since other girls wore jean shorts, which are most definitely not for working out 😅 High school be crazy.

Thanks! That’s what I thought, too. I did have fun in summer school, so at least that ended up okay 🙂

Crazy how that coach gave you an F; that’s so crazy. Even better is your stance for what is your conviction!

Yep. Even as a teen I could tell that was crazy. Oh, well. And thank you! I was just glad to make it up with summer school.
