Sadness has recently knocked on our door, both for me and for my husband. This past week has been difficult for each of us, in our own ways, with issues related to family.
And as some of you may know, I’m a recent follower of Christ, having read the Bible in 2018. So, as my husband and I enter what will be another difficult week, of course I will rely on the Word of God to help me get through it.
Philippians was written by Paul, from a prison in either Rome or Ephesus. From a prison.
From. Prison.
As my husband once told me in jest (but he is so right!!) Philippians 4:13 is not about winning the Super Bowl. On the contrary. It’s about being able to be “content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” It actually goes like this:
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation,
whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Philippians 4:12. And what is this “secret” of being content during good times and bad?
I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13.
I suppose winning the Super Bowl, climbing a mountain, and getting rich can be part of “all things,” but Paul, writing from a prison, explained how he could go through his current ordeal because he had Christ.
So, maybe I can’t win the Super Bowl (maybe), but I can certainly get through this week with Him, who strengthens me ❤️
