Plant Girl

After almost 40 years on this earth, I decided to get some plants πŸ™‚ I’ve never had plants before. Well, actually I had a cactus once 🌡 It got really big, but then I moved.

I checked out the local Ace Hardware, but no plants there. So, even though I didn’t want to, I ended up at Walmart. I told my husband, “If Walmart plants are anything like their fish, they’ll all be almost dead.” And sure enough, Walmart had a ton of dead plants.

I managed to pick through the carnage of dead leaves and dry foliage and found these. I felt more like I was rescuing them instead of buying them.

I poked myself entirely too many times πŸ˜‚

Easy to take care of? Check πŸ‘ Medium sunlight? Check πŸ‘ Safe for doggy? Check πŸ‘

I immediately watered all of them (they were super-dry) and placed them in sunny spots around my room/home office/really cool living space.

I googled care instructions for them, and unfortunately found that one of them had (what I think were) mealybugs. I cleaned it off carefully and separated it from the other plants, but I don’t know if that will be enough. I do not have a green thumb.

So now I am a plant girl πŸ™‚ I think. I’m going to see if these Walmart plants survive, then put them into better pots if they do. The plants were a really bad mess, to be honest. I’m glad my local Walmart doesn’t have fish.

μ•ˆλ…•! Bye! Ciao!

🌻 Take Care! 🌻

  1. I love my plants – it is so fun to watch them grow! I have some pictures of them as babies (in the background of other shots) but when I see them and see how much they’ve grown – well, it’s one of my favorite things! Good luck! Those mealybugs are tough – they got to one of my plants too.

    • That’s so cool πŸ™‚ I’m hoping to put them in bigger pots, so that they might grow. Right now I’m taking care of them, seeing what happens, because the Walmart lot looked so bad. I picked out the more alive-looking ones.

The mealybugs were a yucky surprise, as I have no knowledge of plants! 😲

  2. Ha, guess where I work?

And I would never recommend anyone buy our plants! I don’t know how we stay in the live plant business with how much we neglect them. And yeah, the fish. I’m so glad our aquariums were removed during our 2006 remodel….

    • I had a best friend that worked there many years. He preferred the overnight, restocking shift, away from customers πŸ˜…

I’ve bought some real sad-looking Beta fish at Walmart (many years ago) and no joke, they blow up. Like… they become a huge bubble. Never seen that before, haven’t seen it since, glad to know your store stopped selling them! 😱

  3. Growing plants is one of my hobbies. I love plants! I wish I could send you a picture of my Christmas Cactus. The blooms are gorgeous! I always start new plants in water to grow roots and then give them as gifts once they are growing well in a pot. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Blessings Jarilissima!

  4. Plants put oxygen in the air, which is nice in winter. I have heard that plants use just a bit of oxygen at night, so plants might not be good in the bedroom.

You might also enjoy starting plants from date, avocado, or citrus seeds. You can grow a beautiful vine by placing a sweet potato in water, stem up, and halfway submerged. Ginger planted in soil makes a lovely plant. A pineapple top with a couple of inches of fruit left can be planted in soil. I once had one bear a tiny fruit indoors.

Microgreens, sprouts, cat grass, and herbs. are other possibilities.

Good luck with your new hobby, Jarilissima! πŸ™‚
