Growing up in the early 90s, I got stuck watching a lot of telenovelas. They are soaps from Latin America, with Mexico being one of the most popular countries that exports them.
I was 7 or 8 when we were watching one, and as expected, conflict came up! A married man was accused of fathering a child with another woman.
But HA! I had it figured out. You see, I had just been explained the birds & the bees ๐ I knew how babies were made, so there was no way that this married man was the child’s father.
He’s going to deny it, I thought. Any moment now.
Aaaany moment now…
Only… he didn’t.
So, because he didn’t deny it… And I knew how babies were made… That meant…

and babies are made…
So that means…
I looked at Ma. There’s something wrong with this telenovela!
I did not like that one bit! ๐ It’s been decades and I’ve not watched another telenovela. These days, I do prefer the more innocent, love-driven dramas of Korea๐
์๋ ! Bye! Ciao!

I love telenovelas. They are so over-the-tip ridiculous.

Hahaha Some of them really are ๐ And they are so popular in Latin America! I haven’t watched one in many years, maybe I should give them another try. LoL

When I was in college majoring in Spanish I used to watch those to improve my listening comprehension. There was one that came out of Puerto Rico that I used to follow. Ab is right, they were crazy even in the 1970s. I have since cut TV and Hollywood out of my life completely, but I remember watching โnovelasโ.

How’s your Spanish these days? Were you able to retain a lot of it? I grew up speaking Spanish, but because I don’t practice very often, I forget some words ๐ฆ
And yes! I like very little out of Hollywood. I often find myself watching foreign movies/TV and enjoying them much better ๐ Hollywood feels a bit like copy/paste.

I finished my BA in Spanish, then was a Spanish teacher for 30 years, so Spanish has pretty much become a part of me. But I have noticed that since Iโve been retired, I donโt use it as much and sometimes the words I need escape me. I listen to audio books in Spanish to keep up my comprehension๐

Hahaha It’s cool ๐ I found that https://www.arte.tv/fr/ should have some French television, maybe soaps, although I have never used it. Hope that helps!
