ππ Hi! Learning new languages is cool. I want to share how and why I chose 2 new languages to learn, and tips on how you can decide a new language to learn.
These tips are to make things easy, but the easiest thing is = learn any language that you find fun, engaging, and are passionate about!
People can learn the hardest things if their heart is into it β€οΈ
Korean
I’m currently learning νκ΅μ΄ which seems pretty random for a girl that has lived all over the United States. I chose Korean because I am very exposed to the language, and immersion is key to learning!
I watch almost exclusively Korean TV and my local church has a Korean study group that I hope to be able to help. We’re not meeting right now because of (you know), but we will in the future. Not a day goes by when I don’t listen to Korean. So:
Helpful Hints:
1. Choose a language you will hear often.
2. Choose a language that you can practice with your community/friends/family.
3. Choose a language that is challenging and engaging.
Italian
I chose Italian because I can’t pronounce French π Hahaha! It’s true! French would have been so much better, because my hubby speaks it, but… I just couldn’t. I already have a Spanish accent, and my French is just atrocious.
However, Italian is a Romance language, which makes it close to Spanish. Both languages originate from Latin.
The Romance languages are:
Spanish
Portuguese
French
Italian
Romanian
If you know Latin, or any one of the languages above, you can more easily slip into learning a new Romance language!
Though I don’t watch Italian TV, I have found some nice Vlogs in the language. And because it’s so close to Spanish, I am learning it quicker than I thought possible!
Helpful Hints:
1. If you know English or Spanish, the Romance languages are an easy step to take.
2. Vlogs are a great way to listen to normal everyday speech.
3. Choosing a language you find FUN TO LEARN will keep you motivated daily.

mind to with hard work and perseverance!
I really enjoyed reading this. It was helpful. I am not the very best at learning languages but am interested to try and learn. French is not for me too- can not pronounce properly.
I was thinking Spanish and Japanese.
Any advice on how to will be very appreciated.

Hi Jarilissima! Thanks for checking out my blogπ I love languages too! I am retired after teaching Spanish and English learners for 30 years. I got my BA in Spanish in 1982. But in around 2005 I started learning Punjabi because I had a lot of kids from Punjab in my English learner classes. I think it is so fun, and because the alphabet is different from ours, itβs like a secret code!π I can still read and write it a bit but now that Iβm retired I donβt have my students to practice speaking with. But youβre right, languages are the best!

I also love languages. I speak 2 and just started learning French which I love. Actually its called “Roman languages” but romance i guess that is another way to look at it π I think learning a language you have to think of it as another soul. With technology today anything is possible. I have tried many methods but for me the best thing is to make the language part of your life for example if I go running, I will listen to French music and little things during the day but I also have a schedule and that works for me. Anything is possible but the key is it has to be consistent.

Not the noun or verb, with lower-case “r” but literally the Romance languages. Capitalized R.
